Tip of the Day: Until the new Charities Bill comes into force the Charities Act 1993 is still relevant.

The Governance Doctor

Thank you for logging on to this site - we hope you find it useful.

The Governance Doctor is run by the Team from the Training Support Unit at Community Futures – the Rural Community Council for Lancashire.  From its urban roots working with families of the unemployed in the depression of the 1930s in Manchester, over the decades the organisation's role has changed many times to meet new challenges, but our values have remained the same.  For many years much of our work was concentrated in rural areas but in more recent times we have been working regionally and now nationally in both rural and urban areas.

The Governance Doctor is a service that is offered to organisations from all over England and Wales where groups and development workers alike can access accurate up-to-date information about those governance matters affecting their organisation(s).  By ensuring correct information is sought at the initial stages of your consideration of any matter you can be assured that you are on the right track to making an informed decision about how to run your organisation effectively.

 Our aim is simple:

To assist organisations of all sizes and types from strategic to grass roots level to ensure that they comply with their duties and obligations in law and become more sustainable in the longer term.

As many of you will be aware the new Charities Act 2006 is now coming on line, having received Royal Assent late in 2007.  If you want more information on the changes being brought in please go to our FAQ page.
